High School: La Costa Canyon, Class of 2012

College: University of Southern California, Class of 2016, BA in Human Biology, Minor in Spanish
Swim honors and accomplishments: 2x 100 fly PAC 12 Champion, USC team record holder 100 fly, 200 back, 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay. 2x USC Team Captain & lead team to first PAC 12 Team Title in USC history! (2016)
Favorite Swimming Memory at NCA: Hard to say! One that pops into mind is when Jessie Schmitt, Allie Knight, Katie Tomkinson & I won the 400 Medley relay at Junior Nationals in 2009 (I think that was the year?) These girls were much older than I was and I totally looked up to them– they were awesome teammates. It was the first time I had ever really won something at a big, important meet, and doing that on a relay, with teammates that you admire so much was really inspiring for me then, and memorable for me now.
Favorite Swimming Memory in College: Winning PAC 12 this year was amazing. I’m so proud of the way that the entire team swam. I held a team meeting before the meet started and told the girls that there was no doubt in my mind that we could win, but that we couldn’t expect to have a perfect meet- that almost never happens, no matter how great your team is. But they proved me wrong! It was unlike any meet I’ve raced in, there was such a sense of team pride and excitement to race for something bigger than yourself. I cried like a baby out of pure joy and pride for my team- was a perfect way to finish senior year. I’ve also enjoyed some awesome international competition since I’ve been in college. Swimming at World Champs was a dream come true in itself- but the summer of 2014 was definitely my favorite summer of swimming so far. I started with a best time in the 100 fly after 5 long years, continued with 2 National Champion Titles, a Bronze & Silver at Pan Pacific Championships- where, with a crazy twist of fate, my four best friends were in Australia to watch & celebrate my birthday!!
Life Skill you Learned Through NCA: Commitment & trust in other people. Sticking to something and giving it your 100% over and over again isn’t easy- no matter if you’re doing awesome or doing poorly- neither is trusting someone else completely with your personal goals. These are definitely qualities I developed during my time on North Coast.
Future Goal and Aspirations: I plan to swim past the summer of 2016, no matter if I make the Olympic Team or not. I don’t feel like I’ve quite reached my potential, and if I still love the sport, and still have opportunities to travel the world why would I stop?! I’m still working out what my “real life” job plans are; I’d love to have my own business in a travel/fitness/lifestyle well being category– much easier said than done, however.
